Reasons:
(1) Suit contract: My K, promising Q, hoping you've got A, or Jxxx(x), or xxx, so you can win or ruff the 4th round. Partner please play your higher x to encourage. (But ambiguous with AK, unless you use the Rusinov convention). E.g. with KQx(xx) , lead K
(2) Suit contract: Suit choice 3: A suit that you might be able to establish, allowing for shortages. No point doing it if they'll trump as soon as you've done it.

The play

Declarer's Plan: 

Let's hope defence only manages the first 2 heart tricks, so you can discard a heart on a winning diamond. Otherwise there's a problem to solve.

Play: 

Assuming that West spots that the lead of the King promises the Queen, he will take it with the Ace and then return the 2, hoping that East will then lead Hearts again on the third trick for him to ruff. Oh dear. Draw trumps as soon as you can, then try to win all the clubs or you'll go down. This will only work if West has both K and J.
