- Question
1
Your partner West opens 1NT, so you reply 2C (Stayman), promising a 4-card Major and asking your partner if he has one. After West bids 2 Hearts, only you at East know that we have an 8-card Major fit. What should East now re-bid ?

Answer
Not Hearts. That would be an easy game. But here there is also a chance of a Slam, and East has a perfect chance to show Major support, strength, and a shortage in a side suit - all adding up to Slam interest. East should bid his short suit, the Spades, and make it perfectly clear by jumping. West cannot confuse this with anything else, since with a long Spade suit you would have bid them first time round, either as a transfer or as 3S.
- Question
2
Have a peek at West's hand. What should West now bid, knowing that Slam could be on ?

Have a peek at West's hand. What should West now bid, knowing that Slam could be on ?
Answer
Reveal his second round control in Clubs. Some people will get confused by this, thinking it promises the Ace. Still, it's likely to useful given that East is unlikely to be short in 2 suits.
