Forcing Pass

I was forced to bid - but I pass it back to you

A forcing pass is a method by which your give your partner the choice of how to act, when normally you would be forced to.

There is no commitment to accept partner's choice. Indeed, a forcing pass ensures that the auction will return to the player who issues it, so it may be seen as the first half of a two-step action by that player.

For example, if after a Michael's cue bid from your partner, and where your RHO doubles the bid, then you may then pass, thereby handing back to your partner the choice of which 5-card suit to bid. The implication is that you have no preference.
